Exclamation Mambo causing excessive CPU usage on host?

I never heard of such an issue with Mambo - has anyone? I'd like to learn the cause of this problem, so if anyone can help me determine the source, to better inform my host, then please reply!

This is part of what I received from the host:

We regret to inform you that for the past few months, your site has been
using resources heavily and causing the server load to spike to
uncomfortable levels, depriving other clients of their service level and
resources. Below are a few examples of your recent usage details:

iielatin iielatinamerica.org - CPU usage: 4.39

Top Process %CPU 95.0 /usr/bin/php index.php
Top Process %CPU 70.0 /usr/bin/php index.php
Top Process %CPU 58.6 [php ]

The ideal CPU usage per hosting account is below 0.5 out of a maximum of
1.0.

We understand that you are using Mambo. Please disable all unnecessary or
certain modules to reduce your site's CPU resource consumption. If we do
not see any improvement by 10-June-2005, we may be forced to take down your
site permanently to prevent our server from further abuse.

sounds like a load of crap to me, I have 90 mambo sites on one shared server, and I'm no where near that. I have one newspaper client who goes through a gig of bandwidth, and still I'm not getting the nasty note. What are you serving...full mp3 files? that could be the drain, not mambo. Look it up in slashdot...mambo is not a resource hog.

Well, i couldn't look it up - Slahsdot's search is down - but I'll take your word for it...

Although my account/site was "unsuspended" is currently online (see for yourself: www.iielatinamerica.org), I was requested to chmod the index to 000 in an effort to prevent their server from spiking with excessive load.

It all sounds brutal to threaten a site owner with suspension rather than try to resolve a technical issue - and a bit ridiculous to assume it's Mambo.

Could a component really cause this?

It seems to make sense that component ***could*** cause this. Anybody can write PHP code that eats a lot of cpu time. Wrap that up in to a component and you're off and eating up cpu cycles. But if others are running these components with no problems then it is doubtful.

Does anyone know of a way to measure the amount of processing a certain site takes? How doe slashdot do it? This would be rather interesting to measure...

Problem with gas

A little old lady goes to the doctor ... and says, "Doctor, I have this problem with gas, but it doesn't really bother me too much. They never smell and are always silent. As a matter of fact, I've farted at least 20 times since I've been here in your office. You didn't know I was farting because they don't smell and are silent." The doctor says, "I see. Here's a prescription. Take these pills 3 times a day for seven days and come back to see me next week." The next week the lady goes back. "Doctor," she says, "I don't know what the hell you gave me, but now my farts ... although still silent... stink terribly." The doctor says, "Good! Now that we've cleared up your sinuses, let's start working on your hearing."----------------------------------Do you look for free wow gold? Welcome to our WoW gold website:1.WoW gold,2.WoW gold,
