| Re: (Not all) Hosts Suck (- just some) Well I'm glad I got the ranting off to a good start. And I apologize for the title - I don't mean to lump all hosts together.
I'm currently waiting for a response from the host regarding .htaccess. We'll see. Otherwise, I'll just upload and setup and see how it works - luckily the site doesn't have any content yet, I'm still building it. If it works, it's all good. The remainder of the site was running flawlessly (minus the newsfeeds, unfortunately one of the more important ingredients). (By the way, kudos to all the developers who've done a bang-up job with Mambo components, modules, etc., and to all in the community who've been so quick to help newbies like me). Building a mambo site has been relatively painless and fun.
If it doesn't work, then, as some have suggested, I can always get my money back. I just signed up today and they give 30 days, so...
Anyway, here's hoping. |

| No response yet? Another reason to get your money back
Do they have a helpdesk/forums? You should be able to receive a near instant response from any good host. |

| Re: Hosts Suck they have live chat which is instant, but all i did was hand the guy's @ss to him on a plate, and he was like "please email support@startlogic.com with this issue. they will be able to resolve it for you." |

| Re: Hosts Suck IMO email support is not the kind you want from a host. A ticket system and/or forums are best. |

| Re: Hosts Suck yeah, actually when i sent the email it entered it into a ticket system, which is where it is now. so i can check the status of the ticket by logging in. |

"The directory allwoverride is set to all however the .htaccess allowoverride is set to none."
I'm not sure I understand what he's saying... so I wouldn't be able to use an .htaccess file to turn off Magic Quotes? |

| Re: Hosts Suck well, i'll wait to see whether the newsfeed works, because frankly that's all i'm trying to do. if it doesn't, hopefully i'll find a host that's inexpensive, full-featured, and allows access to the php.ini file.
but thanks to all of you for your suggestions and advice. it's been very helpful. |
