RedCross AkoGallery --- A Plea to Arthur

This is a public plea to Arthur to update his famous akoGallery component to 4.5.1. It is a shame that after this many months since the release of Mambo 4.5.1, the community still does not have a decent, stable, simple gallery component! If Mambo upgrades come at THIS cost, I hope there will never be another upgrade!

AkoGallery worked like charm under version 1.09. How difficult is it to upgarde it to 4.5.1? Please Arthur, go ahead and do this community a big favor by upgrading your component.

Thanks!

PS. I tried the other gallery components (zoom, SPGM, etc..): they do not claim compatibilty with Mambo 4.5.1 and they are very buggy.

Seems this plea is being ignored.

Here is another plea: Is AkoForm compliant with MOS 4.5.1? If not, please give it a try. It does suck when one buys a component which becomes obsolete with the next Mambo tweak.

Give Arthur a little more time to respond. One reason I have been made an admin is so that he can spend less time at the forums to tend to the rest of his Mampire. Not to mention the fact that the forum has been under attack for two days and he has been channelling all his resources to getting it back to normal.

BTW...what part of Michigan are you from?

Certainly. AkoGallery is after all a free component.

I live about 10 minutes from Ann Arbor.

Are you from around here?

Not much of a sports fan here... I only catch the highlights, like when the Pistons won the NBA or the recent mele....

I think this is the most important point of all. AkoGallery is a free component, but sadly life isn't free in general. Many month ago when I coded most of my free stuff, I was employed at a company, worked 8 hours a day, had many free time, which I donated to the community.

Now the situation has changed. I have my own company now and therefore work 12-14 hours daily. And since my baby is born, I also have to spend much time with my daugther.

And finally my motivation for more free stuff is really low. There are many people, who cry 24/7 for a new version of AkoGallery or AkoStaff, but only 3 people donated the amount of 20 US Dollar in December. If you substract the Paypal costs and the 60% tax, I got 7 US Dollars for all my free work. (Dont get me wrong here, I code for honor and not for money, but as money makes the world go round, I primary have to deal with commercial tasks).

Due to the new shop over at MamboShop.com, I hopefully will have a little bit more free time now, which I will spend for new and old projects. So please stay patient everybody and ask yourself, why you never donated, although you seem to make a lot use from my free work...

Point well taken regarding lack of donations. Personally, I did donate and also purchased "commercial" Mambo products. Sadly, my experience with these commercial products is that it is often better to support the free GPL products. I purchased Phil Taylor's products and everybody knows now what happened with his lifetime upgrades guarantee or the mere existence of a support website. I also purchased AkoForms which I think is still not compatible with 4.5.1. Thus after this experience with commercial products, I find myself in a better position when I rely on GPL: at least there is no claim of continued support and the whole community is the support resource.

Sorry to correct you at this point, but AkoForms is available for Mambo 4.5.1 since ages. A new version with a separate Mambot has been released a week after 4.5.1 was made available. All customers have been informed by email, so please be a little bit more carefull before you start to spread any lies!

However, I can only speak for myself. Personally I can't life from the few donations, so my commercial work comes always first place. Therefore all my commercial work was updated shortly after the 451 release and all my free stuff will follow step by step, when I find the spare time to do so.

Finally let me say, that I do not force you to use my free CMT's. If you don't like them, just don't use them. There are a lot far better gallery available like zoom or gallery. Use them and stop whining and pleaing...
