Hello everyone!

From a few days ago I am in dilemma - Can I use templates I downloaded from MamboPortal for my customers?
I am quite new in the Mambo World, but have years of experience in Web design. Everything was fine till I found the Mambo ;)
Because... I wish to offer to my customers the possibility that they make changes on their Websites alone (more free time for me). I read the GNU I know that I can give (but not sell) Mambo OS to my customers, but can charge from them for installation, maybe some translation of the components and modules (I am from Croatia)... etc.
But... also wish to have some kind of base of templates, so my customers will be able to choose from the many of them. As I am at start with this kind job (I mean... offering this kind of Websites), now I have no time to make for instance the 20 templates of my own (but will over the time... and some of them will be published at MamboPortal probably) I plan to use the ones I downloaded from MamboPortal.

Well the question is actually... Can I use them for my customers? I know that I can’t sell them... but as I said... I can charge my customer for installation and some modification of Mambo OS and templates (for instance, some of the customers would have your own logo, or some other details on these templates... maybe colour changing etc).

So... am I right? Can I charge my customers for installing the Mambo OS and templates downloaded from MamboPortal Web Site? Does this templates need to have some details, something special... some agreement on it? Please, help me with my dilemma.

Thanks for your answers!

Most of the templates available for Mambo are released under the GUN/GPL license, which allow for personal and commercial use, you can even sell em.

However, there are some that are released under the creative common license which doesn't allow commercial use unless you get a permission from the author to do so.

Other templates are copyrighted (but freeware) or donationware http://mambers.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif which you have to contact the author for what's allowed and what's not.

This doesn't cover everything out there but these are the most commonly used license schemes among the Mambo community, Hope that helps!

Thanks MamboHut! ;)

Yes, it does sense. If I am right... this information can be seen in the template_details file, too. Right? I remember now that I saw something like this.

Thanks for the answer.

Have a great day!

P.S. Nice Web site. I just been there.

P.P.S. Well... maybe it’s not appropriate place (this question has to be post somewhere in component section)... but... what about the components copyright (and modules)? I mean especially at the bottom notice. For instance – Power by AkoGallery - or something else. Can we take off this notice (but at the same time, we have to notice the customer about the copyright in the welcome email for instance... together with the correct information on my Website, and linking to the Mamboserver, and the components authors Web sites). Is this Ok?
I don’t have to be in some trouble, so wish to use this things right.
Thanks a lot.

As far as i know, "Powered by ..." can be safely removed from the frontend of a GPL module or component but you can't remove it from the source code, someone correct me if i am wrong.

Thanks!
I hope it is true.
As I said... I don't even think to remove copyright from the source code... even, I wish to put the copyright notice in the email that I will send the customer when he/she order the Web Site, togethet with the notice that will stay in my Web site. But... this notice at the bottom of the module, or component... it's... I don't know how to say this... but I will be happy if I can remove it from there.
