I "had" the Cafepress component and module installed on my site www.thaimates.net , but had to uninstall.... :(

Reason:

The module is making the pages reaaaaaally slow... :(
When i published my site in the community forums, i had a lot of feedbacks regarding slow site, but now i have found the problem.

So to all you experiencing slow sites and have the cafepress module and component installed..... Thats the thief.

Too bad though, i kinda liked that component and module.

If anyone might have a solution, i would be grateful!

Best Regards

It's not actually "stealing bandwidth", per se. It's designed to pull pages from CafePress's website, extract the content, and display that content within your own site - preferrably in a way that causes you the fewest possible administration headaches.

That means, though, that whenever a page is requested your webserver connects to CafePress.com and retrieves the information needed. If the connection between your server and Cafepress is slow, this will result in slow loading pages on your site as well.

If you're finding that other pages not served by the CafePress component are slow to load as well, its possible that you've set the Cache Expiration too low, or turned off the Cache Images option in the configuration. This would cause your server to connect to CafePress more often than you like when displaying the random product module - which probably shows up on a bunch of your pages.

There's also the possibility that a permissions problem or a diskspace quota restriction is preventing the aforementioned caching from working properly. You might want to look into that.

If you're having trouble getting the caching to work even after checking your settings, feel free to email me and I may be able to help you figure something out.

I'm currently developing a solution that uses CafePress shops merely as a data source, being almost completely database and cache driven. If CafePress's servers were down, your site's visitors may not be able to access the shopping cart, but they could browse products to their heart's content.

This is PHP/MySQL based, of course, and it will be available as a component for Mambo, but I expect to support integration with PHPNuke, PostNuke, WordPress, and perhaps a few other CMS/Blogging systems, as well as functioning as a standalone piece of software. I do intend to charge for it, however. I haven't decided on pricing yet, but it should be rather inexpensive.

Lastly, I'd remind you that the component you're using is distributed under the GNU General Public License, so if you want to implement a page caching mechanism or something on your own, you are well within your rights not only to do that, but to pass your improvements on to others. Open Source software is great for exactly that reason, and I'm a big supporter of it.

Good luck!

Hi!
I am looking for something to integrate my wordpress into my mambo cms, would this be any help?
how are you going with the development???

thanks

My advice would be: "forget it".

You don't *want* to integrate WordPress and Mambo. WordPress is an entirely different animal, and although they could live on the same website together, there's really no point to integrating them. That'd be like integrating a microwave oven into your riding lawn mower.

Anyway, Mambo would take WP's pretty XHTML/CSS layout and smash it to bits. :)

The CafePress project has been on hold for a few weeks as I've got other things that need doing, and I don't get to set my own priorities sometimes. Programming bites. ;)

I should be getting back to it soon. Thanks for asking!
