I'm fairly up to speed with most mambo developments, and as far as I know nothing like this has been done before, or is in the books.
I know people have requested that another popular open source book/video/CD/DVD catalog be integrated into mambo (cant remember the name :O), but I know no one took up the challenge.
I say go for it :)

be integrated into mambo.
Maybe you could start with this and try integrate it into mambo - if it is useful for your purposes

 How exactly does this work since you can just use a category/section publish the review turn on voting and comments ? wouldnt that be the same as a review component ?
where could I found review component? I don't find this at mamboportal

I have a simple review/rating system incorporated in ArtistDirectory. You can grab that at http://www.costmo.net and modify to suit your needs.
Otherwise you could grab Arthur's AkoComment and do something with that. http://www.mamboportal.com

hehe I had read the post and in your post I see
wouldnt that be the same as a review component ?
so I assumed this component already exists. :D

I would like to know if someone knows of a good review component for mambo.
I googled around and found some people doing:
Mambo Open Source Gamers Database (MOS-GDb)
But after checking their website it resulted in vapor-ware.
I hope no one gets offended, but i switched to mambo because it impressed me a lot. And one thing that disappoints me is the lack of good components that are open source o payware.
I run one of the biggest spanish speaking gaming sites. And I am in the need of a component that my authors can write reviews of games, peripherals and other console related artifacts, being able to publish photos and give a rank to the product as well as let people rank the review themselves.
I know these vapor-ware dudes were on to something like this... I am willing to shell some bucks for its development, but if everyone here believes in opensource it should simply be done. How much could something like that cost? 30 - 50 bucks? If someone can make it ill pay for it, but if someone can make it under gPL I'll feel better sending in a donation.
I hope someone can help.

I am not really sure what people mean by a review component, but I have developed what I call Extended Ratings for Mambo (xtdratings) which takes advantage of the mambo sections and categories to create a directory structure and adds the ability to add comments and rate any article on a set of criteria, rather than just an overall rating. You can have an unlimited number of criteria and multiple sets as well. So if you want to rate restaurants and software (I know that is extreme), you can have different rating criteria for both.
Un unlimited number of criteria sets can be created and assigned to the content sections of your choice.
You choose what content sections to include in the directory. Whether to allow non-registered users to rate and add new products and whether you want to moderate the reviews. I have also integrated it to simpleboard so that users can respond to other users reviews.
Come check it out at http://www.xtdratings.com
Best of all, it is free. The component is not really a component but a facileforms package.

Extended Ratings is by far the best review component out there!
I have developed a review component.
It would be suitable for books, cds, games etc.
At the moment im just testing and will be out at the end of the week if people are still interested.
If people have any needed functionality please post it here and i might be able to add it by the end of the week.
Thanks

http://www.xtdratings.com v 1.61 NOT joomla 1.02 compatible - looks liek it cant handle other then default db syncronym eg. its jos here and the xtd looks for mos.
Which leads to unable to uninstall the stuff (at least out of the box - and im to busy atm to check if its just the sql part with it...) ...facile seems to install fine...
YOur website: looks like i cant login with a username "imAPo0rPwnedBetaTesterwitLuck" - it let me register but not login to post at your site :) Also i cant post a bug report - cause i cant find the MAMBO or JOOMLA (c) ... eg. ver number
There isnt even a guest forum or comment function i came across.
