Smile can i use authorware dynamic htm files with mambo?

Hi

I want to be able to use macromedia authorware files that i make for music technology tutorials on my mambo site

I can export these as htm files but I'm not sure how i can place them into pages on my mambo site.

Can anyone help explain how i can do this?
do i need to create a url link?
or can I have the graphic files viewable on my content page?
...or what else?

Do i have to use an iframe wrapper?
and if i do, where do i place the files?... in a newly created folder in public html? or where?

I tried (dumbly) to insert the htm page as an image in a typed content page...Doh

Any help would be greatfully appreciated.

Thanks, Wooly

Hi!

Yes, you can use your files within Mambo. You will need the brilliant Mambo Wrapper component by Jason Murphy to help you. You can find it in the download section of Mamboportal.com.

First create your presentation as you would with Authorware, export as HTML and upload the content of that export folder to a dedicated folder on your web server.

Install Wrapper and give it the URL of the directory containing your Authorware HTML export. Now generate a Menu item with the URL provided by Mambowrapper and off you go!

Beware sizes! Wrapper will do the following: it will create a content item along that procuces an iframe. You can define the size of this ifram in the component's admin section. Beware that large presentations made with Authorware could sometimes not fit into your regular Mambo content space. If everything fails, you can always add your presentation using a Main Menu item made up of the URL to your presentation that opens in a popup window...

Also, be aware of the fact that people who fiew your presentations will need an extra plug-in to be able to view Authorware elements! This is one big disatvantage that Authorware does not produce plain HTML nor Flash but HTML that embeds the Authorware file to be played using a special plug-in...

excellent!

Thanks Stephen

I get .htm files from the authorware publish for web option.
I think i heard that htm and html files are treated as the same.

Is this correct? or do i need to convert/rename the output file?

thanks for being so quick on this

Another option is to use scheurer's static page loader.

Discussed here:
Best method of displaying Static Pages

So long as its not a complex script it should work.

But too be honest I have no idea, only way is to try it out.

Also in the thread I gave coke brings up an important issue regarding security, which I have no answer to.

Ok Stingrey

I read the thread you mentioned and the developer Scheurer has posted Today at 19:42

"No security risk because it is possible only to include local files."

I'll try it the component anyway and keep an eye on the thread

Thanks!

please re-read... i'm still concerned but security!!!!!

if you want to use ti change line 11 of static.php from

include $staticfile;

to

include "./staticspages/".$staticfile;

to make sure the components nly can reach that dir....

now that i'm thinking bput it, you should check no .. are added to $staticfiles too... so please
WAIT before using that or simplier, HARDCODE your included page:

include "mypage.htm";

or you can see Howto Guide -> making a very simple component for the making of your very custom template and hints about linking inside the files (to not going out of your template)

cheers

wooah ...this looks like you really know what you are doing but...i'm afraid I'm flying by the seat of my pants....

I'm learning about six different technologies (Including authorware ) at the same time here so it would be real cool if you gave me some baby steps so my head doesn't explode lol
